In our small group, we're discussing NOT A FAN by Kyle Idleman. Last night we were challenged to look at our relationship with God and "define the relationship", much like dating couples have to do at some point. We were challenged to determine whether we were a "fan" of Jesus or a "follower". According to the author of this book, we need to define the relationship.
This whole idea troubles me.
I choose instead to let God define our relationship. He sees me, a broken and messed up sinner - a rebel who brings nothing to Him except sin and resistance - and accepts me fully and unconditionally because of Jesus' finished work on the Cross. He defines our relationship like this: He says, "I am your perfect, holy Father. You are my dearly-loved child. Nothing you do or don't do can ever change that..."
